Wedding Etiquette…Should Kim Kardashian Return her Gifts?

I’m sure we’ve all heard the recent news that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries have decided to split after 72 days of marriage. Surprise, surprise!

Since 72 days could be an all-time record in the celebrity world…has anyone taken the time to think about what they will do with those crazy, expensive, wedding gifts?! What are the etiquette rules? To return or not return…that is the question.

When it comes to weddings, the amount of opinions and rules are endless. According to news sources, Kim and Kris registered for over $172,000 worth of vases, place settings, gold napkin rings and Baccarat crystal. Since they didn’t even make it past the three month mark doesn’t it make sense that they should give everything back?

“The rule of thumb is if the marriage ends after just six months, you should return the unused gifts,” said Lizzie Post, author of Emily Post’s Etiquette 18th Edition.

How about the used items like waffle makers or cappuccino makers? Since it’s safe to say that nobody cares to receive a used gift, maybe they can donate to charity? That might be a nice gesture. A handwritten note to thank each of the guests and to let them know about the donation could be the cherry on top!

I don’t think there’s ANY question as to whether any monetary gifts should be returned. If the guest doesn’t want to accept it, that money could be donated to charity as well.

In conclusion, I think we can all agree that this former couple should do their best and “keep things classy”. Using common sense and respecting everyone involved will always be the best bet.
