A Family Weekend

Summertime, and the living is easy… Ahhhh. That is music to our ears in so many ways! This belated Southern California summer heat wave is making us want to kick off our shoes and feel the grass at the park or the sand at the beach between our toes—which happen to be a bright coral color to match our happy outlook on summer! We think the whole family would enjoy a day of fun in the sun with a summer picnic, complete with fun activities and special treats!

*While packing up that picnic basket make some fun chocolate covered pretzel sticks for your family to snack on! Melt the chocolate of your choice on the stovetop or microwave and dip pretzel sticks into melted chocolate, then lay the pretzels out on wax paper to dry. After the first glaze of chocolate is completely dry, re-dip pretzels in chocolate and coat them with fun colored sprinkles and let them re-dry on wax paper.

*If your picnic takes you to the shore, make sure to take a stroll on the sand with the kids and stock up on pretty shells to use for DIY crafts at home or to amp up the centerpieces of your other summer parties. We love the crafty idea of taking two shells and using a little super glue to glue a pair googly eyes between the shells. The empty shells will have a whole new cartoon-inspired personality!

*Your utensils should match your summer outlook! A family picnic is the perfect excuse to stock up on colorful reusable cutlery that can spice up any outdoor festivity. Plus, you are being kind to the environment while enjoying what nature has to offer you during these summer months.

*An easy yet absolutely scrumptious and unexpected meal for your picnic is ceviche! We love it because it is a light, crisp, healthy, summer fare that can be prepared with so many variations! We like ours with zesty shrimp marinated in lemon juice with cilantro, onions, tomato and peeled cucumber. Prep it in the morning or the night before than seal it up in some tupperware, grab some tortilla chips with guacamole and you are golden! Don’t forget the tabasco if you like an extra kick of flavor!
