Every expecting mom deserves a fabulous baby shower, and planning a fabulous shower starts with selecting the right theme. How can you choose the best theme for the next baby shower you plan? Just remember that the mom-to-be is the star of the show! If you personalize the shower to suit her tastes, interests, and personality, she will surely be pleased.
Let’s consider what I mean by this. Does the expecting mom like reading and value education? Is she a teacher, librarian, or lover of literature?
Make the shower all about the ABCs. Serve dainty cakes decorated to resemble painted wooden children’s blocks, complete with icing letters and numbers. Use small children’s book covers for coasters or place settings. Create a wonderland around her favorite childhood book character.
What about catering to her current frame of mind? Expecting moms are known to be kind of obsessed with getting ready for the arrival of a newborn in almost ritual-like prepping of the home known as nesting. In a creative nod to this time in her life, throw a baby shower with a baby bird’s nest theme. Offer guests hummingbird cake or sweet cupcakes topped with little birdies surrounded in shredded coconut. Set out tiny nest-like baskets filled with robin’s egg blue Jordan almonds.
Is the guest of honor expecting more than one bundle of joy? A baby shower for multiples can highlight the double delight (or triple, or more!) Throw a sweet peas in a pod shower. For your color scheme, think peas and carrots – crisp green with a pop of orange. Get creative with the décor and favors, all centered around pea pods. For game time, have guests guess which celebrities are twins or twin parents. Even make peas the featured vegetable in the salads and fresh casseroles you serve.
If she’s a quintessential girly-girl, excited to give birth to her first baby girl, throw a frilly pink tea party. Is she an animal lover having a boy? Make it a zoo or jungle-themed party. Is she having her third baby in as many years, and prefers a diaper party? There’s no reason it can’t be stylish and sophisticated diaper-themed party. Fashionista? Put on a baby and toddler runway fashion show. Environmentalist? Have an eco-baby-themed party with organic everything.
I think you get the idea. There are tons of fun baby shower themes – a garden party, 50s housewife, vintage ice cream shoppe. When planning the perfect baby shower, always select a theme with the mother-to-be in mind. Once you’ve chosen a theme, let your creativity flow.
